About Serena Weatherhead

MY BACKGROUND

I’m a pre-licensed counsellor completing a Master’s in Counselling Psychology. I’m passionate about working with individuals who are caregivers for others, individuals experiencing women’s health issues, young adults experiencing life transitions or relational difficulties, and academic or professional burnout. I provide culturally responsive and trauma-informed treatment from the perspective of an IBPOC community member who supports individuals in integrating all facets of themselves into our therapeutic relationship and treatment goals. I have previously worked with parents and siblings of individuals with disabilities, mothers experiencing postpartum and parenting difficulties, young women, and students experiencing a variety of mental health concerns.

MY APPROACH

I understand that beginning therapy can feel intimidating! My treatment approach emphasizes unconditional safety and acceptance without judgement in a manner that empowers you to practice taking up space, expressing, and processing your thoughts and emotions. I believe in walking alongside you throughout your treatment process – meeting you wherever you are in your journey and supporting you in finding your most authentic answers to life’s obstacles. I use a client-centred integrative approach informed by evidence-based treatment styles such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and somatic therapy. Together, we’ll work to identify boundaries that create the life you envision for yourself.

What Sets me Apart

  • I offer culturally responsive and socially just treatment from the perspective of a person of colour and second-generation immigrant. As a clinician, this enables me to understand and support my clients through their lived experiences on a deep empathic level that considers their various identities wholly
